Who We Are

Olga-Barrera-2.png

Dr Olga Barrera

PI of  Oxford image-based multi-physics modelling of multi-phase materials. Reader in Mechanical Engineering, Oxford Brookes University

She is a prominent scientist in the field of soft tissue biomechanics and bio-inspired material systems. Olga focuses on a class of soft tissues that have loading bearing and impact absorption  functions such as the knee meniscus. Olga has been appointed as visiting professor at ENSAM Bordeaux, France (starting from April 2023) and at IITM. She is currently a research fellow at the Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford, where she was based from 2009-2017. She was awarded a Marie SkÅ‚odowska Curie Fellowship (2018-2020) focused on understanding the structure-function relationships of the human meniscus. Olga authors 47 publications of which 19 as first author, 1 single name author and 27 as last author).  Her Marie SkÅ‚odowska Curie Fellowship allowed her to work and lead the cadaver laboratory at the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences, University of Oxford. Olga is the PI of the knee wear lab at Oxford Brookes University.

Dr Eleni Elia

Senior Lecturer in Statistics

School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics

Eleni has a background in mathematics (BSc Hons), and statistics (MSc, PhD), and her expertise is in advanced computational methods in statistics, prognosis research and medical statistics.

Prior to her current appointment Eleni has held research positions at renowned institutions such as the University of Leicester, Harvard University, and Boston Children's Hospital.

Eleni is driven by a passion for using data to improve patient outcomes and make a real impact on people's lives. She is harnessing her expertise in computational methods coupled with her background in mathematics to develop AI solutions that could revolutionize the way we approach patient care and beyond.

Amna Aamir

Research Assistant

Amna is a 2023 mathematics graduate from Oxford Brookes University, specialising in advanced topics such as 3D topological quantum field theories and Frobenius algebras, which she explored extensively in her dissertation. After graduation, Amna contributed her analytical skills to the "Infectious Disease Surveillance in Refugee Camps" project, where she conducted a comprehensive literature review to support the team's efforts in understanding and mitigating the spread of diseases in vulnerable populations.

Since March 2024, Amna has been part of the soft tissue biomechanics project. She has been an integral member of a team dedicated to developing a MATLAB application designed to model and simulate the behaviour of soft tissues.

Saduni

Research Assistant

Saduni has been working for the Soft Tissue Biomechanics Database project since March 2024. She completed a BEng in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Hull in 2022 and a MSc In Biomedical Engineering at Ulster University in 2023. Her research interests include soft tissue biomechanics, materials science and constitutive modelling.
